Communique issued at APC South South Zonal excos meeting in Calabar

COMMUNIQUE ADOPTED BY THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) SOUTH SOUTH ZONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING ON SUNDAY, 16th JUNE 16 2024, AT METROPOLITAN HOTEL, CALABAR, CROSS RIVERS STATE.

PREAMBLE:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) South South Zonal Executive Committee Meeting pursuant to Article 12.6; subsection i-xv of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress (Zonal Executive Committee), held on 16th June 2024 at Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar, Cross River State.

The APC South South commends the Coordinator of the South South geopolitical zone, H.E. Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu for hosting a successful South South Zonal Meeting and the National Vice Chairman South South APC, Hon. Chief Victor Giadom for convening the Zonal meeting of the region.

It expresses its profound gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for his policies, projects and programmes; particularly the economic reforms targeted at repositioning the Country.

In unequivocal terms, the Zonal Executive Committee unanimously congratulates the President of the 10th Senate, H.E. Sen. (Dr) Godswill O. Akpabio, CON on his emergence as the Chairman of the National Assembly and President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The zone notes that whereas the Late Sen. Joseph Wayas served as President of the Senate forty-five years ago, the incumbent President of the Senate has broken several jinx and milestones by also emerging as the Executive Committee Member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU); sixty years after Nigeria’s membership in that global legislative space.

RESOLUTIONS:

The Committee received Reports on the strengths, weaknesses and reforms from the Six States of the Zone, namely, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta State, Edo State and Rivers State; whereupon the APC South South Executive Committee resolved as follows:

a) Appreciates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointments so far made in favour of the region and implores him to consider more faithful party members for appointments at the Federal level.

b) Acknowledges the need for unity and renewal within the party; recognising the importance of a cohesive and vibrant APC in the region.

c) Resolves to set up a reconciliation Committee in the South-South region headed by HE Sen Bassey Otu

d) Resolves to bridge any existing gap, foster collaboration and work towards a common goal of strengthening the party’s presence and influence in the region.

e) Reaffirms its unwavering support for the policies and programs of the present administration in areas of good governance, economic reforms, national security and infrastructural development.

f) Resolves to mobilise available party assets towards winning more states; particularly using the forthcoming elections in Edo State as a test case.

g) Commends the President for his commitment to the Coastal Road Project and the commencement of the construction from both ends of the project.

h) Resolves to mobilise efforts towards the e-registration programme of the All Progressives Congress by creating the required awareness to engender inclusivity, participation and ownership of the party.

i) Passes Vote of Confidence on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, urging him to consider contesting the office of the President for a second term in 2027.

J) Passes a Vote of Confidence on the President of the Senate, Sen (Dr) Godswill O. Akpabio, CON as the Leader of the APC in the zone.

K) Committee also thanked Mr President for appointing Chief Nyesom Wike into his cabinet and urged him to continue with his good works.

L) Passes a Vote of Confidence on the Governor of Cross River State, HE, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu as the coordinator of the South-South geo-political zone

M) Passes a Vote of Confidence on Hon. Chief Victor Giadom and the Zonal Executive Members of the Party,

N) Condoles with the family of Late Senator Joseph Wayas

CALL TO ACTION:

The meeting concluded with a call to action for all party members to actively participate in the rebuilding and strengthening of the APC in the zone. Participants were urged to engage in grassroots mobilisation, promote unity and reconciliation and work tirelessly to ensure the success of the APC in future elections.
