Apple iOS/iPadOS 17.6 Developer Preview Beta Released

On Monday, 18th June, Apple pushed the iOS 17.6 developer preview Beta update (internal version number: 21G5052e) to iPhone users. This update was released 48 days after the last release.

Apple typically runs two separate testing cycles each summer, one for the major new iOS update that rolls out in the fall and another that is usually the last revision of the previous year’s update, which is also the case this year.

iPhone users can currently choose between iOS 18 and iOS 17.6 developer betas, and only one can be run at the same time, so most beta users will likely choose iOS 18.

We checked public information and found that Apple did not announce new features of the iOS 17.6 system, but only fixed the following bugs:

  • Fixed an issue where some Bluetooth headsets might not be used as audio output paths under certain AVAudioSession configurations.

  • Fixed an issue where the videoRotationAngleForHorizonLevelCapture and videoRotationAngleForHorizonLevelPreview values returned by AVCaptureDeviceRotationCoordinator were incorrect when using the front-facing camera on iPad Air (6th generation) and iPad Pro (7th generation).

The last major version of iOS 17, version 17.5, released last month, introduced new Pride wallpapers, Quartiles games for News+ users, offline Apple News content, and the opening of app network distribution for the EU market, among other things.

How to upgrade iOS / iPadOS / watchOS / macOS development and beta versions?

To upgrade to iOS / iPad OS 17 developer preview and public beta, please refer to the experience shared by friends : Experience Post 1  ||  Experience Post 2  ||  Experience Post 3  ||  Experience Post 4.

Starting from iOS / iPadOS 16.4 Developer Preview Beta 1, you need to register for the Apple Developer Program. After registration, open the system [Settings] [ Software Update ] to see the upgrade option . Please note that your iPhone or iPad must be logged in with the same Apple ID used when registering the Apple Developer Program in order to see the upgrade option in the settings.

In future versions of iOS and iPadOS, this new setting will be the way to enable developer previews and public betas, and configuration profiles will no longer grant access.
