The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated total revenue of N4.49trn between June 2023 and May 2024, showing a 74 per cent growth in revenue collection over the period under review.

The Comptroller General (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, where he highlighted the achievement of the Service in the past year of his administration.

Adeniyi said the growth is in comparison to N2.58trn collected during the corresponding period of the previous year.

He noted, “This achievement was underpinned by a sustained increase of 70.13 per cent in average monthly revenue collection compared to that of the previous year.

“We recorded an average monthly revenue collection of N343bn compared to the N202bn average last year.

“Notably, there was a substantial N122.35 per cent increase in revenue collection for the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in previous years.”

The Customs boss attributed these feats to strategic initiatives including the revenue review performance recovery exercise which generated over N15bn into the national treasury.

Another initiative was N2.79bn recovered from the 90-day window for the regularisation of the documents of uncustomed vehicles.

Others include N1.5bn recovered from the decongestion of 1,705 overtime containers and 981 vehicles from the port.

It is also worth noting that on June 13, 2024, NCS recorded a daily All-Time-High of N58.5 billion in revenue collection.
