Canadian defender, Moise Bombito, has received racial abuse after their match against Argentina on Thursday.

CONVERSEER reports that Canada lost to Argentina 2-0 in the opening game of the 2024 Copa America football tournament.

The defending champions, Argentina won the game comfortably following goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez in the 49th and 88th minutes.

Shortly after the game, Bombito’s social media pages were filled with racial comments.

Reacting, Bombito who kept his cool, took to his social media (Instagram story) to write: “My beautiful Canada. No room for that bs.”

Canadian Men’s National Team has also probed the racial abuse directed against Bombito.

“Canada Soccer is aware of and deeply disturbed by racist comments made online and directed at one of our men’s national team players following tonight’s match.

“We are in Communication with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL about this matter,” it said in a statement.

Recall that football governing body FIFA, earlier this week said its social media tools designed to protect players from online abuse would be available to all 211 member associations and their teams.

Canada will need to bounce back being one of the host nations as they face Peru in their second game on 25th June.
