The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers opener on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The win came following a tremendous performance by Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman who scored one and two goals respectively.
Lookman opened the scoring in the first half as the Super Eagles seized control of the match. The Cheetahs only managed one shot on target in the half which was saved by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
The visiting team tried to take control of the match in the early stages of the second half, only for them to be stunned by Osimhen’s mesmerising goal, extending the home side lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute.

Transfer saga finally over (for now), it's refreshing to see Osimhen doing what he does best. Unless you're a Chelsea fan 🫣pic.twitter.com/WiQhhfSLuV
