Two artisans were on Thursday docked in a Kado Grade I Area Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing eight pairs of women’s hair extensions worth N3.8 million.
The police charged Samuel Isaac, 33, plumber and Daniel Odeh, 37, tiler both of no fixed address, with joint act and theft.
The defendants however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that on April 30, at about 6:20 p.m., Mr Chijoke Ugu, of Wuse zone 5 Plaza, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse Divisional Police Station.
Nwafoaku said that the defendants and two others, Smarth and Ahmed now at large, broke into the complainant’s shop located at Wuse zone 5 Plaza.
He alleged that the defendants stole eight pairs of hair extensions worth N3.8 million.
The prosecutor said that during police interrogation, the defendants admitted to the crime, saying the other two accomplices escaped with the stolen items.
According to him, all efforts made to recover the items failed.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Simon Cornelius, made an oral bail application, citing Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 158 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, assuring that the defendant’s would not jump bail, if granted.
The Judge, Malam Muhammed Wakili, admitted Isaac and Odeh to bail in the sum of N1.5 million each with one surety each in like sum.
Wakili ordered that the sureties must provide a BVN print out, a recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
He adjourned the matter until May 31 for hearing. (NAN)
