A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 21-year-old scavenger. Salisu Shehu, be given seven strokes of the cane for stealing three bags of cement.
Shehu of Ungwan Sarki Kaduna, was convicted on one count of theft.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, ordered the flogging, following a guilty plea by Shehu.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that a crime prevention unit led by ASP Sarki Abdullahi of Surveillance Police Team arrested the convict and took him to Gabasawa Police Station.
Leo said that the team caught Shehu on March 12 along Kawo, with three bags of cements which he was trying to hide when he saw them.

He said the convict confessed to have stolen the cements from a warehouse along airport road Kaduna.
He added that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. (NAN)
