24-Year-Old Allegedly Kills Mother, Dumps Body in Well in Cross River

Obudu, Cross River – Tragedy struck in the Ohong Community of Obudu Local Government Area, Cross River State, as a 24-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother and disposed of her body in a well in what is suspected to be a ritualistic act.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2024, on Chairman Road, has left the community in shock.

In an amateur video shared online by a netizen, Okoi Promise, community members are seen retrieving the lifeless body of the deceased woman from the well.

According to CrossRiverWatch, a source familiar with the incident revealed disturbing details.

According to the source, the suspect allegedly tied up his mother, who had just returned from church, and, with the assistance of a friend, threw her into the well.

The suspect reportedly threatened a housemaid present at the scene, warning her against revealing the act.

“The young boy tied his mom up after she returned from church and, with a friend, threw her into the well. He also threatened the housemaid, warning her that if she spoke up, he would kill her,” the source stated.

The housemaid was later taken by the suspect on a motorcycle, ostensibly for sinister motives, but was intercepted by local vigilantes.

The young girl narrated the horrifying events, leading to the community discovering the tragic murder.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

The shocking event has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for intensified security measures to prevent further occurrences of such heinous crimes in the community.

Meanwhile, residents are urging law enforcement agencies to ensure the suspect is apprehended and justice is served.

The police are yet to issue a statement on the matter.
