A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody by the Jigawa NSCDC Command for allegedly cheating farmers out of N2.8 million.
The arrest was verified by the command’s spokesperson, CSC Adamu Shehu, in a statement released in Dutse on Friday.
Shehu claimed that the suspect, a citizen of Jahun LGA’s Takai village, was detained on October 25.
Shamsu Haruna, ‘M,’ 30, of Takai Village, Jahun LGA, was detained on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022.
He added that the offence violated sections 96 and 320 of the state’s Penal Code and was penalised under sections 97 and 322.
The spokesperson stated that the suspect was detained as a result of accusations made by Abdussalam Yau and two other people over the suspect’s alleged use of trickery to steal from them.
According to him, the victims said that the suspect plotted with other individuals who were only known to him and obtained the money by promising to give them fertiliser and farming equipment at a reduced price.

“They later realised that it was a deception and all efforts to retrieve their money proved difficult; they reported the matter at our Divisional Office in Jahun LGA,” the spokesperson said.
Shehu added that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having committed the offence and named four others, now at large as his accomplices.
“Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the four fleeing while the principal suspect already apprehended will be charged to court after all investigations are concluded,” Shehu said.
