Hugo Rosa, 33, of Meriden, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor and was sentenced by the Honourable Courtney M. Chaplin to 20 years in prison, which will be suspended after serving 7 years, as well as 10 years of probation, according to John P. Doyle Jr., the state’s attorney for New Haven.
Rosa was found guilty by a jury of three counts of risk of injury to a minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes Section 53-21(a)(1) and two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes Section 53a-73a(a) 1A on February 9, 2023, in Meriden Superior Court.
Trial testimony and court documents show that police started looking into Rosa when the child’s father stated that the child had informed him that Rosa had repeatedly touched her improperly starting in 2017.
In his remarks regarding the sentencing, Judge Chaplin mentioned that the victim was a kid under the age of 13 and that several of the offences took place while she or he was asleep.
Rosa must go through a period of sexual offender therapy and be registered as a sexual offender for the rest of her life. In order to safeguard the victim, the judge issued a lifetime-standing criminal protective order against Rosa.
The Meriden Police Department conducted the investigation, and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Nichol Peco prosecuted the case with the aid of certified legal intern Aimee Nicolich.
