The Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, in Zurmi town, Zurmi Local Government Area headquarters in Zamfara State, has been attacked by armed bandits.

It was said that on Sunday night, the bandits broke into the town and killed seven people, one of whom was a police officer.

Babangida Zurmi, a town native, told Channels Television that as of 9:45 p.m., he hadn’t spoken to any of his relatives because the majority of their phones were off.

He said: “As we speak now, I can’t get in touch with anybody in the town, their numbers are switched off. That means the bandits are still around. We need help from relevant authorities.”

According to another source who talked with Channels Television, the bandits targeted the town as payback for the local vigilantes’ deaths of two people in the vicinity.

The source claimed that in addition to the divisional police headquarters in Zurmi being destroyed, many stores were set on fire.

Four people have been killed and numerous others have been kidnapped by another bandit group that operates in the Maradun Local Government Area.

The four victims were slain, allegedly, when bandits opened fire on them while they were pulling shrubs along the road.

Yazid Abubakar, the Zamfara State police spokesperson, verified the attack over the phone with Channels Television.

He claimed he was still gathering information about the Zurmi attack on the town’s police divisional headquarters.
