9 Cross River NASS members endorse Tinubu, Otu as sole candidates for 2027

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – Nine out of 11 National Assembly (NASS) members in Cross River State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu as sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The legislators, comprising two Senators and seven House of Representatives, made the endorsement on Thursday, 29th May 2025, in Calabar, the state capital.

The lawmakers under the umbrella of the APC Caucus in the National Assembly attributed the endorsement to the performances of both Tinubu and Otu.

L-R: Hon. Emil Inyang, Hon. Bassey Akiba, Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong, Sen. Eteng Williams (Leader), Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, Rt. Hon. Alex Egbonna, Hon. Victor Abang, Hon. Joseph Bassey, and Hon. Peter Akpanke

Leader of the Caucus, Sen. Eteng Jonah Williams (Central Senatorial District – APC), said Tinubu and Otu have done well to deserve a second term.

“Let’s start with Mr President, who is our father. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a testament to the students’ loan, one of the benefits of subsidy removal, and several other projects.

“For us in Cross River, we’re endorsing him wholeheartedly, to be the sole candidate come 2027,” Sen. Williams said.

Continuing, he said, “For us in Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu should continue to finish his 8 years. We’ve seen what he’s done: the state library, which is now wearing a new look, the security improvement following the launching of Operation Okwok, every local government we project, even in my village.

“Our Governor and his Deputy don’t need to be stressed, let them continue. For the peace of our land, we’ll say, let’s endorse him and the party won’t stress him.”

Lending his voice, Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba (Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency – APC) noted, “We’re endorsing them to concentrate and continue so they won’t be distracted.”

On his part, Hon. Bassey Akiba (Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency – APC) said, “Like we do in the parliament, when there’s an enactment in the national, we try to domicile in the sub-national, so we are here to endorse the President and the Governor for a second term.”

Other NASS Members present include Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong (Southern Senatorial District – APC), Hon. Emil Inyang (Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency – APC), Rt. Hon. Alex Egbonna (Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency – APC), Hon. Victor Abang (Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency – APC), Hon. Joseph Bassey (Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency – APC), and Hon. Peter Akpanke (Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency – PDP).
