The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) in Cross River State has stated that there is no prison break in the state as reported on social media.
Agba Jalingo, one of the leading voices in Cross River State, reported on Friday morning, about 4 hours ago, that a murder suspect and six other persons have escaped from the Obubra Prison located at Ofatura Road, Ogada, in Obubra Local Government Area of the State.
Jalingo made this post on Facebook and syndicated on his WhatsApp, saying the murder suspect, Joseph Obase, and six others drugged prison warders to escape.
He further alleged that two persons have been arrested.
“Murder suspect, Joseph Obase, six others, escape from Obubra Prison after drugging food for warders. Two rearrested,” Jalingo’s Facebook post and WhatsApp message read.

“We don’t have any jailbreak. There is nothing like that,” Etim told our Reporter.
Recall that there was an attempted jailbreak at the Afokang Correctional Centre in Calabar on 18th October 2023.
DSC Etim confirmed to CONVERSEER that the gunmen who attempted the jailbreak were repelled by the guard on duty, leading to the death of one guard.
