Nigeria 2nd bottom of Group C as Super Eagles draw South Africa in Uyo

Nigeria are second bottom of Group C, just one point above 6th place as the Super Eagles were held by the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Uyo Stadium.

Nigeria went into today’s game knowing that a win would take them to first or second place, depending on the score line but the Super Eagles could not take advantage as the game against South Africa ended in a 1-1 draw.

South Africa drew the first blood after Themba Zwane put the Bafana Bafana ahead in the 26th minute.

Nigeria drew level at the start of the second half when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru slotted home in the 46th minute to make the game 1-1.

Nigeria threatened in the last parts of the game but South Africa’s goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, ensured the game ended in stalemate.

The draw means Nigeria now have 3 points after three games, just one above Zimbabwe.

South Africa on the other hand now have 4 points, sitting in 4th, above Nigeria and below Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have now drawn their last three matches in the CAF World Cup qualifiers, against Lethoso (now sitting on top of the group with 5 points) and Zimbabwe (sitting at the bottom with 2 points).

To ensure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Nigeria need to win their remaining 7 matches.
