Suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has said President Bola Tinubu fought for the democracy Nigeria is enjoying today.
Edu stated this as part of her June 12 Democracy Day message to President Tinubu, describing him as a soldier of democracy.
“On this auspicious occasion of Nigeria’s democracy day and celebration of 25 years of unbroken democracy, I join millions of Nigerians to heartily felicitate with Mr President on the milestone achieved in pursuit of a democratic, egalitarian and free society in Nigeria.
“There is no doubt that you are an unwavering soldier of democracy who has been in the vanguard of securing a just, equitable and fair country and a better future for all.
“History has recorded your contributions as progressives, from NADECO days that gave birth to the fourth Republic, when you joined to form the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), then to your immeasurable contribution to the formation of All Progressives Congress (APC) and now as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to practice true democracy for the good of our dear nation. There is no doubt that you have laboured and sacrificed for democracy and its enthronement in our nation.
“No wonder Nigerians rewarded your sacrifices with their massive mandate which they collectively gave to you at the polls.
“Mr President Sir, it is heartwarming that you have justified this confidence and mandate through the renewed hope policy of your administration which among other things aims to extricate millions of vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty.
“Your Excellency, I warmly congratulate you on this epochal occasion of Democracy Day and wish you many more years of service to our fatherland.
“On your Mandate I Stand, Sir,” Edu’s message read.
