Uyo, Akwa Ibom – The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, held his maiden strategic security meeting on 7th January 2025, bringing together the command’s Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders.
During the meeting, CP Azare outlined key directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aimed at enhancing professionalism and addressing issues such as corruption, extortion, and incivility towards the public. He further emphasised the importance of supervising junior officers effectively to ensure discipline and performance.
According to a statement by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom State Command, on Tuesday, CP Azare reaffirmed his commitment to fostering an open-door policy and implementing crime-reduction strategies tailored to the state’s peculiar security challenges.
He directed DPOs, Area Commanders, and Tactical Commanders to develop actionable crime-prevention plans for their respective jurisdictions.
In a separate event, CP Azare presided over the decoration of 144 newly promoted senior officers in the command. The ceremony, attended by family members, friends, and colleagues of the officers, saw the promotion of:
- 2 officers from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)
- 25 officers from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP)
- 22 officers from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Superintendent of Police (SP)
- 93 officers from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)
Prominent among those decorated were ACP Inyang John Abia, DPO Shelter Afrique, and ACP Ahiwa Ribadu, OC Anti-Cultism, who were elevated from CSP to ACP. Other recipients included CSP Felix Ekpoudom, CSP Cordiella Nwawe, and CSP Ebong Thompson, along with SP Edu Edward Lawrence and SP Osamwonyi Omonuwa.
Addressing the officers, CP Azare congratulated them and their families, reminding them of their roles as ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force. He urged them to carry out their duties with integrity and within the confines of the law, especially as they assume the responsibilities of their new ranks.
The CP also expressed gratitude to IGP Egbetokun, the Police Service Commission, and the Force Management Team for their unwavering commitment to the welfare and professional growth of police personnel.
