Another tragic jungle justice overwhelmed Calabar, Cross River State capital as angry mob lynched a suspected phone snatcher identified by the name Offiong.
CONVERSEER gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday (May 20) at Ekpo Abasi Junction by the University of Cross River (UNICROSS), Calabar South Local Government Area.
According to an eyewitness, Cletus Asuquo, who is also a Correspondent with Calabar Parrot, the suspect was caught in the act while snatching the phone from the victim.
“The handset snatcher, who was identified as a member of a notorious gang specialised in pickpocketing and dispossessing victims of valuables, was caught in the very act at the popular Ekpo Abasi Junction, UNICROSS roundabout in the locality while attacking the victim”, he said.

He added that “Offiong had forcefully tried to attack his pose victim with a knife so as to dispossess him of his mobile phone. As the struggle persisted, the victim raised an alarm calling for help and some male residents from the area rushed to the rescue.
“In the process, Offiong was overpowered, beaten and stabbed severally. However, he managed to escape from the scene with multiple injuries and raced towards the nearby UNICROSS roundabout where he fell.
“The mob caught up with him and they tied him with a thick rope, beat him, and put a tyre around his neck. Offiong later gave up the ghost due to loss of blood”.
The Police spokesperson in Cross River, SP Irene Ugbo said she was not aware of the incident when contacted.
“I am not aware, nobody has reported anything like that to us”, Ugbo.
The Cross River State Police Command has severally issued statements condemning jungle justice, warning the public to desist from the act.
