Mr Samuel Apata, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Somolu Constituency 2, for the House of Assembly Election, says he will focus more on youth empowerment and grassroots sports if elected.

Apata gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos after voting at Polling Unit 012, Ward F.

According to him, his focus on grassroots sports development is to discover more talents and to engage the youth positively.

“l want to develop sporting activities in Bariga Local Council Development Area through youth empowerment.

“The increasing rate of restiveness amongst young Nigerians leading to various forms of social vices such as political thuggery, drug addiction, cultism and terrorism has become a major challenge in the country.

“For this reason, l have identified positive youth engagement as a way of reducing such vices in the society, and sports has been identified as one of the major tools of engaging the young Nigerians,” he said.

Apata assured that he would bring legislation close to the people, adding that “I want to work with the governor to attract development to Bariga.

He commended David Alabi, Chairman, Bariga Local Council Development Area, for the support toward actualising his dream to be the next lawmaker from Bariga.

“Alabi is my political godfather and he has been supporting my political ambitions, so as other leaders.

Similarly, Abiodun Orekoya, the candidate of APC, Somolu Constituency 1, also promised to engage the youth quarterly on skills acquisition.

Orekoya said that quarterly assembly with the youth would fast-track the expected cultural reconnect.

“We have failed the youth. The #EndSARS has opened my mind to various things and if the youth are engaged, some things that happened would not have happened.

“When I emerge, l will make sure the youth are engaged and also bridge the gap between them and the legislature,” he said. (NAN)
