Calabar, Nigeria – The Chairman of Calabar Municipality, Apostle James Anam, has introduced new payment platform for Calabar Municipality revenue collection.
Converseer reports that the new payment platform, Automated Payment System, is to make revenue collection more convenient.
This was contained in a public notice signed by Oqua Etim, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, on Monday.
The notice which warned against illegal revenue collectors, read:
“This is to inform members of the public, particularly owners of Businesses, Corporate Organisations, Banks/Financial Institutions, Hotels/Guest Houses, Filling Stations, Private Hospitals/Clinics, Private Schools, Eateries and Tank Farms /Petroleum Depots, that Calabar Municipal Council has introduced a new Automated Payment System for its Revenue heads, that will make it easier and more convenient to make payments.
“From now on, payments for Tenement Rate, Shop/Kiosk Levy, General Rate (Community Tax), Habitation Properties, Liquor License, Radio/Television Licence, and Environmental Health Certificate from the aforementioned businesses and organisations shall only be made through the Remita Platform (http://www.remita.net). This is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in revenue collection.
“Please note that payments should only be made through the Remita Platfom. Avoid making payments to anyone or any agent, as this may result in double payments. Ensure that you are paying the correct amount to avoid unnecessary complications. Calabar Municipal Council will not recognise payments made outside the Platform.
“Furthermore, this Public Notice serves as a warning to illegal Revenue Collectors to cease from collecting Revenue from any of the aforementioned organisations and Revenue heads. Anyone caught engaging in such activities will be prosecuted.
