Honourable Grace Bassey, Councillor of Ward 7 in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
CONVERSEER gathered that Bassey’s defection was made known in a letter she wrote and addressed to the Chairman, PDP Ward 7 in Bakassi on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
In the letter titled “NOTIFICATION OF RESIGNATION”, Bassey said: “This is to inform you of my decision to resign my membership of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)”.
Giving reasons for her defection, the Councillor said she is a signatory of the Back-to-South agenda, as the Southern Senatorial District cannot wait for another 32 years before it can climb the Diamond Hill seat.
“As a signatory of the Back-to-South Movement, I find it contradictory to campaign, support or vote for a guber candidate from the Cross River Central or North.
“The South cannot wait for another 32 years on end for power to return to her”, the letter signed by Bassey read in part.

She further thanked the PDP for giving her the platform in which she became a member of the Bakassi Legislative Council. “I thank you all for the opportunity given to me under this platform until now”, Bassey added.
When CONVERSEER contacted Bassey on the phone, she said confirmed her resignation from the PDP, adding that “I will officially join the APC tomorrow (November 16, 2022) as I have resigned from the PDP today (November 15, 2022).
Since 1999, the Governorship seat in Cross River State has rotated within the three Senatorial Districts that made up the state – Southern Senatorial District (1999-2007), Central Senatorial District (2007-2015) and Northern Senatorial District (2015-2023).
While many argue that the seat of power can go to anywhere since it has completed the cycle, others say it should return to the South where it started, for continuity.
