Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is aware that if the Bundesliga leaders are to win trophies, they will have to put an end to recurring slip-ups like the 3-0 defeat at Feyenoord on Wednesday.
The defeat complicates Bayern’s hopes of an automatic last-16 place in the Champions League. They return to domestic duty at Freiburg on Saturday, four points ahead of second-placed champions Bayer Leverkusen.
“That’s the goal, that’s how it will have to be at some point. If you want to win trophies, you have to be there at every moment,” Kompany told a news conference on Friday.
But Kompany is not overly worried despite the repeated setbacks in the Champions League at Aston Villa, Barcelona and in Rotterdam.
“It would be unusual to win trophies without going through something in a season. It happens to every team. You have to be there in the decisive moments. And those moments will come,” the Belgian assured.
He is glad that the next game is just three days after the fifth loss of the season in all competitions.
“We wanted to be able to play again quickly,” Kompany said. “Hopefully the answer will come on the pitch.”
Bayern, though, have problems at full back in Freiburg, with Alphonso Davies out with a hamstring injury and Konrad Laimer suspended.
Kompany mentioned a possible “creative” solution, which could mean midfielder Joshua Kimmich going to right back given other options are not fully fit.
