Cattle breeder docked for alleged N3.28m fraud

A cattle breeder, Abubakar Sadauna, was on Monday docked in a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja for allegedly swindling businessman of N3.28 million.

The police charged Sadauna, 41, with criminal breach of trust, cheating, criminal misappropriation and giving false information.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Edwin Ochayi, told the court that in 2020 and 2021, the complainant entrusted 24 cows to the defendant with cater for and sold.

Ochayi said that during police investigation the defendant was arrested and he told the offficers that the 24 cows dired.

The prosecution said in the course of further investigation, two of the cows were found in his possession and he could not give a satisfactory account of the whereabouts of the remaining 19 cows.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322, 309 and 178 of the Penal Code.

Sadauna pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two reasonable sureties each in like sum.

He ordered that two third of the amount involved be deposited as security of bail.

Mayana ordered that the residential addresses of the sureties must be verified by the court and police personnel.

The judge adjourned the case until April 20, for hearing. (NAN)
