Sebastian Hoeness has renewed his contract as VfB Stuttgart coach by another year until 2028, a move that should end speculation of his future at last season’s Bundesliga runners-up.
Stuttgart made the announcement on Saturday during the international break. The contract is said not to include a release clause.
Hoeness, 42, took the helm in April 2023, saved Stuttgart from relegation over the following weeks and then led them to second place behind Bayer Leverkusen and into the Champions League in the past season.
They are 10th in the league at the moment but in contention for a European berth, which they could also reach via the German Cup, where they are in the semi-finals.
Hoeness, the son of former Stuttgart and Bayern Munich striker Dieter Hoeness and nephew of Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness, had been linked with other clubs.
Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle said that “VfB and Sebastian Hoeneß have worked in perfect harmony from day one.
“Sebastian led our team from acute relegation danger to the runners-up spot and into the Champions League. He has implemented a clear style of play and improved many players individually.
“We have always known that we want to work with Sebastian in the long term. Sebastian is a perfect fit for us and our goals, both professionally and personally.”
Hoeness said: “I’m very pleased about the contract extension because I’m convinced that we can still achieve a lot together.
“We want to and have to continue to give our all at every level of the club in order to be successful in the long term. That includes further developing and strengthening our team. We want to be able to play in European competition in the long term.”
