Court jails sales rep 1 year for misappropriating N830,000

Court remands 2 motorcyclists for alleged breach of trust, cheating

A Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Wednesday sentenced a 28-year-old sales representative, Sadiq Hassan to one year imprisonment for misappropriating N830,000.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Hassan, after he pleaded guilty to cheating and misappropriation.

He gave Hassan an option of N20,000 fine.

Emmanuel ordered the convict to pay N830, 000 compensation to the complainant, Rabiu Yusuf and in default, he is to spend another two years in prison.

Earlier,  the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that the case was reported on March 25 at the Gabasawa Police Station, by the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the convict was entrusted with a shop and fabrics to sell for the complainant.

He said the convict sold some fabrics worth N830,000 and converted the money to his personal use.

He said the offence is punishable under the provisions of sections 304 and 294 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.(NAN)
