Court remand for allegedly beating up woman for refusing his friendship

A Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered the remand of a businesswoman, Chinyere Nicholas, in a correctional centre for allegedly swindling her Business partner of N500,000.

The defendant who resides at Catholic Church, Kpeygyi, Abuja, is charged with criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation and cheating.

The judge, Mr Umar Mayana, deferred bail for the defendant and adjourned until Jan. 13 for ruling.

Mayana ordered that the defendant be remanded in Suleja correctional centre pending investigation.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the matter was reported at the Kurudu Divisional Police Headquarters by Dennis Ogo who resides beside Catholic Church in kpeygyi, Abuja.

“The complainant said that  in July, 2022 the defendant fraudulently deceived him and his wife, Lydia Elah and collected the sum of N500, 000 in pretense to use it for business.

“But during police investigation it was discovered that the defendant converted the money to her own use,” he said.

He said the offence contravened the provision of Section 312, 306 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
