The staff of the Cross River State Ministry of Agriculture are in a moody session as they set to bid farewell to their Commissioner, Oliver Orok whom they described as the best to have occupied the office since the advent of the outgoing administration of Governor Ben Ayade.
According to the staff, the outgoing Commissioner has been an asset to the ministry and has gone the extra mile to give the ministry a facelift, refurbishing dilapidated structures while enhancing the aesthetics of the edifice once a haven for reptiles due to its filthy environment.
“But less than three months since assuming office, our new boss has transformed the place. We now have light after over five years of blackout occasioned by disconnection over mounting debts”, they said.

Conducting newsmen around the headquarters of the ministry, a director who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity said,” Sadly, our present commissioner was sent here at the twilight of the administration, one can only imagine the impact he would have created if he was here earlier.

“After the “ENDSARR” mayhem, this place was desolate with everything of value carted away including roofing sheets, gates furniture. Rains and extreme weather conditions combined to destroy what was left.
“We were abandoned to our fate. Staff on the last floor became stranded as their offices were overtaken by floods whenever it rains. The place was constantly raided by hoodlums given its porous status.
“But less than three months since assuming office, our new boss has transformed the place. We now have light after over five years of blackout occasioned by disconnection over mounting debts”.

In a chat with newsmen, the Agric Commissioner, Oliver Orok revealed that he opted to renovate the structure to guarantee a conducive working environment to guarantee optimum productivity.
“Even when I was in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, I did the same thing by refurbishing and furnishing the entire building to taste. You can’t give your best in a filthy environment”, Oliver posited
Government offices under the outgoing administration have become breeding grounds for rodents and reptiles due to overgrown grass and decaying furniture.
