Desperation: Osun APC mocks Adeleke over visit to Tinubu

OSOGBO (CONVERSEER) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has described the recent visit by Governor Ademola Adeleke, alongside his brother, Dr Deji Adeleke, and nephew, music star David Adeleke (Davido), to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a sign of desperation and political confusion.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 5th June 2025, and signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party’s Director of Media and Information, the Osun APC said the visit has no political significance, stressing that it would not affect the calculations or aspirations of its governorship hopefuls ahead of the 2026 election.

According to the statement, the APC believes the visit reflects internal turmoil within the Adeleke political camp. “The troubled looks on the faces of the three visitors to the President indicated a pointer to the fact that if something was not chasing them, they were definitely chasing something,” Olabisi stated.

While acknowledging that any Nigerian citizen has the constitutional right to visit the President, the APC argued that the urgency and manner of the visit were suspicious, especially given Governor Adeleke’s past criticisms of President Tinubu and his policies.

“Unlike other PDP governors who have shown understanding and support for the Federal Government’s economic reforms, Governor Adeleke has continued to attack and ridicule the President and his administration,” the statement alleged.

The APC accused the Adeleke-led government of sponsoring negative campaigns against the President, including an incident involving schoolchildren in Ede who were captured in a viral video using derogatory terms against Tinubu.

The party also criticised the Governor’s handling of Osun State’s economy, citing the example of students at the University of Ilesa who reportedly pay up to ₦1.5 million in annual tuition fees. The APC said such policies have fuelled resentment among citizens, which they believe will manifest in the 2026 governorship election.

“We thank President Bola Tinubu for hosting the Adelekes. At least, it will be on record that when the governor is punished at the poll in 2026… he would not have any President to throw under the bus for his electoral misfortune next year,” the statement concluded.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday at President Tinubu’s Lagos residence, has drawn mixed reactions across political circles, with some viewing it as a reconciliatory gesture, while others interpret it as a strategic move ahead of the next election cycle.

As of press time, the Osun State Government and the Adeleke family have not issued any response to the APC’s remarks.
