The Police Service Commission (PSC) has cautioned Police personnel against encouraging subversion of the will of the people ahead of the March 11 governorship and state houses of assembly elections.
Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
“Police must not encourage the subversion of the people’s will at the polling and collating units and must not show any sign of partisanship whatsoever,” he said.
He urged police officers on election duties to restrict themselves to ensuring that voters were allowed to discharge their civic responsibility and their votes protected.
Ani called on the Police in collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure the votes of Nigerians in the March 11 governorship and Houses of Assembly elections count.
He said the PSC was currently studying cases of police conduct arising from the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“The Commission’s Staff Monitors who were deployed to the 36 States of the Federation and Federal Capital Territory Abuja have since turned in their reports.
“The Commission is also, demanding improved performance from police officers on election duties during the March 11 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections,” he said.
According to him, the Commission is  also, expecting reports from the management of the Nigeria Police Force on proven  cases of misconduct for the commission’s consideration.
He said the Acting Chairman of PSC, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, had promised that better and improved performance from Police would attract reward from the commission.
She called on police officers on election duty to go all out and make the nation proud. (NAN)
