The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government (SSG), Dr Habibat Adubiaro, has charged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to intensify efforts toward protecting the girl-child against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
She gave the charge when women officers of the corps visited her in her office in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.
She also urged the corps to continue to secure lives and properties and ensure the safety of pupils and students in both primary and secondary schools.
The SSG urged members of the security outfit to particularly protect the girl-child from molestation, rape and other forms of GBV, adding that teachers also fall victims of the evil perpetrators.
Adubiaro, therefore, urged the corps to work with school authorities and other relevant stakeholders to stem the tide.
She cited the use of perimeter fencing as part of measures to prevent hoodlums from invading schools and wreaking havoc on young girls.
Responding, DSC Owoola Olabisi and Commander of Female Strike Force with NSCDC in Ekiti who led the team, said the visit was to inform the SSG about measures taken to curb GBV and other forms of insecurity in the state.
Owoola said some schools in Ado-Ekiti metropolis have become hideouts for hoodlums and the corps had been working to dislodge them.
She urged the state government to support the security outfit so it could be more effective in discharging duties.(NAN)
