Mr Christopher Maikalangu, the Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has commended residents of the area council for their peaceful conduct in the ongoing elections.

The chairman, who voted at exactly 1:50 p.m. at the Garki Village polling unit 004, also expressed happiness over the electoral process, which he said did not take up to “three minutes”.

“I want to commend INEC and its officials for the electoral process so far.

“From the news I have gotten from different parts of the council, the elections have been peaceful and I want to call on the residents of the council to continue to conduct themselves in a peaceful way,” he said

On the death of the FCT Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Mr Sunday Zakka, who died in the early hours of Saturday in a car accident, Maikalangu commiserated with the family of the deceased and the party faithful.

The chairman, who described the news of his death as shocking, also prayed for the repose of his soul.

In a related development, the Sapeyi of Garki, Alhaji Usman Nga-Kupi, commended the residents of Garki for trouping out en masse for the election.

“The BVAS has been working well and no one has complained of it malfunctioning so far.

“I also want residents of Garki to be patient with the process and I want the supporters of the political parties to maintain peace and not cause havoc in the area,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Musa Ahmed, a person with disability, commended the INEC officials for giving preferential treatment to PWDs in his polling unit.

Ahmed, who voted at the Garki Village Chief Palace polling unit 002, also described the process as peaceful and calm.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that as at 2:30 p.m voting was ongoing in some polling units in Garki village, while some have ended, while sorting and counting is about to commence.(NAN)
