Gov Eno Launches Youth Employment Portal to Boost Job Opportunities for Akwa Ibom Youths

Uyo, October 22, 2024 – Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially launched the ARISE Youth Employment Portal, a groundbreaking digital platform designed to connect young people with employment opportunities across the state. The announcement marks a key milestone in the governor’s efforts to fulfil promises made in his Charter with Akwa Ibom youths, focusing on job creation and economic empowerment.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Eno expressed his pride in unveiling the platform, which aims to streamline access to job openings in both the public and private sectors. “I’m proud to announce the launch of the ARISE Youth Employment Portal, a one-stop platform designed to provide job opportunities for Akwa Ibom youth, as part of our commitment to fulfilling the promises made in my Charter with Akwa Ibom youths,” he said.

The portal is structured to align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal on poverty reduction. It features a segmented approach to job listings, allowing companies and government agencies to recruit based on specific skill sets. This approach, Governor Eno emphasised, will ensure that the state’s talented workforce is matched efficiently with employment opportunities.

In addition to job listings, the portal offers support for several empowerment initiatives, including the Youth Business Support Scheme, ARISE Entrepreneurial Support, and Bursary Educational Grants. These programmes are designed to provide financial and educational support to young entrepreneurs and students in Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno also announced the establishment of a State Inter-Labour Committee, which will oversee the recruitment practices of companies operating in the state. This committee is expected to ensure that Indigenous human resources are prioritised in hiring and that transparent employment practices are adhered to.

Among the sectors set to benefit from the initiative are Ibom Watch and Health/Safety monitoring, both of which are expected to recruit thousands of young workers.

“I urge all Akwa Ibom youths to take advantage of this opportunity to secure meaningful employment and contribute to the development of our state,” Governor Eno concluded.

The ARISE Youth Employment Portal is seen as a significant step toward reducing youth unemployment and fostering economic growth in Akwa Ibom State.
