Former Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Asu Okang has slammed Mr Kalita Joe Aruku, Special Adviser on Information to Governor Ben Ayade for peddling fake news.

Okang, who also served as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development under Governor Ayade said Aruku is supposed to be a source for verifiable information and not misinformation.

Aruku had earlier posted on his Facebook page of over 7,400 followers on Sunday evening that “APC won Etung! If you don’t gerrit, forget about rit.”

Debunking the news posted by Aruku, Okang took to the comment section to reply as follows:

“Kalita Joe Aruku, as a Special Adviser on Information to the Governor, your page should be a veritable channel of correct information. When people are in doubt, they should cross-check with you and be sure, that once they can hear from you, then it is verified! By all standards, except for recent times, that office would pass for a cabinet position.

“As one who left the collation room at 6am this morning, I can authoritatively tell, that what you just posted is not only false, but misleading.

“For the records, not for any other reason, Labour Party won the Presidential election in Etung, while the Senate and House of Reps were taken by PDP.

“However, my friend Mike Etaba won overwhelmingly in Obubra to secure the Etung/Obubra Federal constituency seat for the third time. Please try to be super sure before going public”.

In his reply, Aruku said “Asu Okang Thank you for the clarification. Can you share your copy for us for verification.”

Kalita Joe Aruku, just like his employer, Governor Ben Ayade are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

CONVERSEER reports that Aruku’s page has repeatedly shared and reshared unverifiable information without retracting.
