No fewer than 46 communities benefitted from the Solar Powered Street lights sponsored by Mr Bassey Ewa, former Speaker, Cross River House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the communities were from Cross River Central Senatorial District.

Ewe made this known while conducting newsmen round the benefiting communities on Tuesday in Ikom Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The former speaker said that the aim of the project, which spread across 60 wards in the district, was to improve security and boost economic activities.

Ewa, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) Senatorial candidate in the district, expresed gratitude to God for making it possible to put smile on the faces of the people in the communities.

The PDP’s candidate, who also represented Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency at the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015, said his main reason for seeking elective position was to improve on the living standards of the people.

“I have always looked beyond personal interest to that of generality of all. I am happy when I see smiles on the faces of my people.

“My experience over the years as a lawmaker in both state and federal levels will place me in a better position to provide more for my people, if elected as a Senator,” he said.

However, one of the representatives of the beneficiaries from Obubra LGA, who was simply addressed as Chief Igwe, lauded the project.

Igwe who listed Ababene, Ofodua, Ochon, Iyamoyong and Ofumbongha, among others as the benefiting communities in Obubra LGA, said the project had also made the night lively in their areas.

Another speaker, Mr Ekpo Effiong, who represented Yakurr LGA, said several communities benefitted from the project.

He said the communities included Ugep, Ekori, Agoi Ibam, Asigga, Ekpeti and Ebelebe among others.

“We have in past benefitted from the former speaker’s laudable projects such as boreholes and empowerment programmes,” Effiong said.

NAN reports that other council areas that benefitted from the project in Cross River Central uncluded Abi and Boki. (NAN)
