On social media, a video created by The Daily Voice has gone viral with viewers claiming it is proof that Bill Gates thinks climate change is untrue. The video, which was produced in September 2022, is mentioned in an article from the website Truth In Plain Sight that repeats this assertion and is largely to blame for the film’s recent popularity on Facebook.
The film features a discussion and Gates footage that is cut with a quote from the Microsoft founder, saying: “remember, electricity is 25 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. Whenever we came up with this term ‘clean energy,’ I think it screwed up people’s minds.” After this footage is shown, the video’s narrator concludes that “we have Gates on record admitting clean energy is a scam,” and that this shows the “pain and suffering that the great reset clean energy policies are inflicting on ordinary people,” also a “scam.”
The video clip in which Gates discusses clean energy is a portion of an interview he gave at Stanford University in 2018. The unedited version makes it obvious that Gates is talking about how renewable energy and batteries don’t fully fix the climate challenge. After reading the rest of the interview, it is clear that Gates’ critique of these technologies stems from his belief that they fall short of providing a comprehensive response to the climate challenge.

The video’s caption spells this out clearly, stating that “declining prices for devices to generate and store renewable energy are great, but not nearly enough to save the world from climate change, according to Bill Gates.”
Gates never calls climate change a “scam,” mentions the World Economic Forum, or uses the phrase “great reset” in the complete interview or the excerpts from The Daily Voice’s video. According to an unverified conspiracy theory known as “The Great Reset,” the World Economic Forum, other influential figures, and international organisations are working together to change global cultures and restrict human freedoms.
This conspiracy theory’s proponents frequently portray climate change as a justification for elites’ restrictions on people’s rights and behaviour. However, it is important to note that Bill Gates has been outspoken in his belief that people can address the climate crisis in this way.
Speaking on Bloomberg’s podcast, Zero, in September, he stated that “I don’t think it’s realistic to say that people are utterly going to change their lifestyle because of concerns about climate.”
Bill Gates does not acknowledge in the cited video that the climate problem is untrue. It is evident from the entire interview that he is making the case that batteries and renewable energy sources alone cannot resolve the current issue. As a result, this statement has been tagged as untrue.
