Alhaji Labo Yari, one of the renowned pioneer Nigerian writers and founding member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), has died at the age of 83.

His eldest son, Haruna Labo-Yari, said on Saturday that his father died at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, following protracted illness.

He said that the deceased was the author of the popular novel, Climate of Corruption, published in 1973.

The novel, Climate of Corruption, was the first novel in English language to be published in Northern Nigeria.

Labo Yari was particularly famous for his highly imaginative narrative style that portrayed the social realities of the Hausa/Muslim community in Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the deceased wrote 15 novels and a biography of the 47th Emir of Katsina, Muhammad Dikko, who reigned from 1906 to 1944.

The funeral prayer of Labo Yari, who left behind seven children, two males and five females, will be conducted at his residence in Katsina by 2pm. (NAN)
