Sokoto, Nigeria – A fighter jet has inadvertently bombed two communities, Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa, in Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
Converseer learned that the incident which happened on Christmas day, December 25, killed over 10 dead, leaving several others injured. Properties were also destroyed in the cause of the bombing.
According to Daily Trust, the fighter jet was targeting the Lakurawa terrorist group before mistakingly bombing the two communities at about 7 AM.
According to the report, the two villages were located close to Surame Forest identified as another hideout of Lakurawa and bandits.
Confirming the incident, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, Chairman of Silame LGA, told this paper that they were still assessing the level of damage caused by the airstrike.
According to him, “The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs started dropping on the communities. They were innocent and peace-loving people who had no criminal record.
“It was early for me to confirm the number of people either killed or injured because we are still assessing the development.”
Meanwhile, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, Spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, when contacted, told Daily Trust that it was not a police operation.
