A Tesla accessory shop has been burnt by fire to almost nothing in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria.
CONVERSEER gathered that the shop, also selling other car accessories worth millions of naira, was razed by the fire on Tuesday morning, 8th October.
The shop which is located at No. 7 Bedwell Street, Watt Market, Calabar, caught fire while a welder was welding at a nearby shop.
An eyewitness who gave his name only as Uche, told CONVERSEER that the welder was welding a shop beside the Tesla and other car accessories shop when fire sparked from an electric cable, razing the shop.
Uche said the shop deals on car accessories like Android screens worth hundreds of thousands naira each, Tesla screens worth five hundred thousand naira each, and several others.
“We were here doing our business as usual, and before we know it, there was a spark and then the fire started burning inside the shop.
“The fire came from the shop beside it where a welder was welding something. It’s like the spark from the welder’s equipment touched a wire that carried light into the car accessory shop and that was how the shop burnt almost everything – even with the effort of the people around to quench the fire.
“The items in that shop are worth several millions of naira. One Android screen alone is over N100,000. The Tesla one is over N500,000. Other accessories and spare parts like side mirror, phone stand, etc, were also burnt.
“The effort of the sales girl to try and salvage some things was in vain as she could only pack a handful. The shop owner wasn’t around when the incident happened.
“Meanwhile, the shop the welder was working on did not catch fire and was not affected,” Emeka said.
CONVERSEER reports that on 19th October 2023, a fire burnt shops worth millions of naira at the Shopping Complex part of the Watt Market by Hewett Street.
