Gov. Duoye Diri of Bayelsa and former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Monday appealed to residents of Kaduna South senatorial district to vote for candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the zone.
Diri and Dogara made the appeal at the campaign launch and presentation of flags to the zone’s PDP candidates in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
The Bayelsa governor stated that a vote for the PDP candidates in the zone and across Nigeria was a vote for progress and prosperity.
He said that Southern Kaduna and the entire country was in need of selfless leaders who had the interest of the masses at heart, adding that the PDP was the only alternative to put Nigeria back on track of development.
On his part, Dogara said if voted into power, the PDP’s priority would be to unite the people as unity was the solution to many of the country’s challenges.
“Except we find a way to unite, we cannot build Nigeria into the country of our dreams. It will take unity to surmount the numerous challenges confronting us a nation.
“As a party, our first task will be to unite the country as there can be no challenges bigger than us if we are united,” he added
Dogara urged the people of Southern Kaduna not to allow themselves to be divided along tribal and religious lines in the coming elections.
“We must not allow ourselves to be divided on the basis of tribe and religion. We will still be the ones to suffer if we do and we have suffered enough,” he stated.
The lawmaker said a government led by the PDP would ensure equity, justice and fairness in the distribution of projects and appointments.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP candidates in the zone, Sunday Katung, the zone’s senatorial candidate, implored the people to allow their experiences of the past to guide them in the elections.
Katung said the PDP candidates in the zone had come up with a legislative agenda to guide them if elected into office.
The senatorial candidate noted that Southern Kaduna had benefited greatly under the PDP, hence, they need to return the favour at the polls.(NAN)
