Governor Mbah Signs N971bn Budget for 2025 Fiscal Year

Enugu, Nigeria – Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has signed into law a N971 billion appropriation bill for the 2025 fiscal year.

The signing ceremony, held at the Government House on Tuesday, was attended by Speaker Uchenna Ugwu, members of the State House of Assembly, and top government officials.

The budget allocates N837.9 billion (86%) to capital expenditure and N133 billion (14%) to recurrent expenditure. The education sector received the largest share, with N320.6 billion (33%), maintaining its lead for the second consecutive year.

Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for the prompt passage of the budget, describing it as a “massive Christmas gift” for the people.

“We have christened our budget the ‘Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity’ because it represents our commitment to the state’s development. By January 1, 2025, Enugu will begin its journey towards greater heights,” the governor stated.

Speaker Uchenna Ugwu praised the collaborative process between the executive and legislative branches in preparing the budget. He highlighted that the parliament’s involvement ensured a smooth passage without amendments.

“The assurance to Enugu people is that we shall continue to have it good,” Ugwu said, commending the administration for the successful implementation of the 2024 budget and pledging robust oversight of the 2025 fiscal plan.
