Governor Otu Constitutes 2 Statutory Bodies on Climate Change and Green Economy

Calabar, Nigeria – In line with the Climate Change and the Green Economy Commission law of Cross River State, Governor Bassey Edet Otu has approved the constitution of two statutory bodies, namely the State Council on Climate Change and the State Green Economy Commission.

According to a press statement by the Governor’s spokesman, Mr Nsa Gill, on Tuesday, these two bodies are statutory and are expected to provide strategic direction, ensure policy implementation, and coordinate intersectoral collaborations to achieve the State’s climate change goals and green economic aspirations, among other responsibilities.

The statutory heads and members of the Council and the Commission are as follows:

State Climate Change Council

  1. Governor Bassey Otu – Chairman
  2. Deputy Governor Peter Odey – Vice Chairman
  3. Commissioner for Environment – Member
  4. Chairman Green Economy Commission – Member
  5. Emmanuel Etim – Member
  6. Adam Nkanor – Member
  7. Veronica N. Jakarasi – Member
  8. Joseph Onoja – Member
  9. Dr Mrs Edu Effiom – Director General of the Council

Cross River State Green Economy Commission:

  1. Oden Ewa (Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations) – Chairman/Chief Executive Officer
  2. Xavier Eyamba – Member
  3. Engr. Peter Ohiero – Member
  4. Justin Andoh Eleshi – Member
  5. Ekpor Erekoro- Member
  6. Austin Eremi – Member
  7. Stephen Eguba Ekwok – Member
  8. Barr. William Itorok – Member
  9. Edwin Usang – Secretary of the Commission

“The two bodies are to strengthen collaborations with development partners and stakeholders on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and green economic growth, among other assigned duties.

“Their functions commenced from the date of this release,” the statement added.
