Governor Otu Embarks on 3 Weeks Annual Leave

Calabar, Nigeria – Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has embarked on a three-week annual leave.

Converseer reports that the three weeks leave which started on 11th March 2025 is expected to end on 1st April 2025.

According to the Governor, “In service to our great state, every day has been a journey of dedication, hard work, and commitment to our shared vision. With the kind approval of the Cross River State House of Assembly, I will be taking a short three week annual leave, beginning today, March 11, 2025.”

The Governor further stated that, “During this period, my Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, a trusted and capable leader, will oversee the affairs of our state, ensuring seamless continuity in governance.”

He said, “This brief moment of rest is essential for renewal, as I remain deeply committed to advancing our People First agenda and driving the progress we all desire. Upon my return, I look forward to continuing the work of building a more prosperous, inclusive, and thriving Cross River State.

“Thank you for your unwavering support, prayers, and dedication to our shared aspirations. May God bless Cross River State.”

The State House of Assembly has granted the Governor the permission to proceed on the annual leave, during which his Deputy will oversee the affairs of the state in an acting capacity.

According to a statement by Matthew Okache, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, “In the letter addressed to the Assembly, Governor Otu formally notified lawmakers of his decision to take a break.”

Okache said the Speaker read the letter during plenary, “after which the House deliberated and approved the request.”

Adding that, “The lawmakers commended the governor’s leadership and wished him a restful and refreshing break. They expressed confidence that he would return with renewed energy to continue driving the state’s development in line with his People First agenda.”
