R-L: Sen. Bassey Otu and Rt. Hon. Orok Duke

Calabar, Nigeria – Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has expressed profound sorrow following the passing of the Late Sir Edem Wilson Ubom, the father-in-law to Rt. Hon. (Chief) Orok Otu Duke, Commissioner representing the state at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board.

In an official condolence message addressed to Chief Duke on Thursday, February 27, the Governor extended heartfelt sympathy to the family in mourning.

Converseer reports that Sir Ubom, who passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 82, was remembered for his steadfast support and wise counsel.

“I received with regret the news of the demise of your dear father-in-law the Late Sir Edem Wilson Ubom, who passed on to eternity on the 3rd day of January 2025 at the age of 82.

“The deep affection and connection between your father-in-law and your beloved wife – Victoria, especially as the first daughter, makes his loss all the more poignant as she mourns the absence of his fatherly love, support and sage advice,” Otu said in the condolence message.

The Governor further expressed his personal commiseration, praying for divine strength to help the bereaved cope with the void left by the esteemed elder’s departure.

“May the loving memories of Late Sir Ubom’s life, legacy and the impact he had on those around him bring you, your dear wife and the rest of the family comfort during this difficult time. His passing leaves a significant void but his memory will continue to inspire and guide you.

“I, therefore, commiserate with your family and pray that God grants you the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May his gentle soul find rest in the bosom of the Lord. Please accept my heartfelt condolences!” he added.

As the family, friends, and the broader community gather to bury the deceased on Friday, February 28, 2025, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the enduring legacy of Sir Ubom is expected to continue inspiring and guiding those whose lives he touched.
