The competition which is specially designed for children aged 8 to 12 years, as part of the company’s commitment to celebrate the International Day of the African Child, scheduled for June 16, 2025, will take place in Calabar, Cross River State, with the aim of engaging children in a fun and educational manner, encouraging them to explore their creativity in the kitchen.

Mrs Oluchi Wonder, Goldgear Group Nigeria Limited spokesperson

The Group’s spokesperson, Mrs Oluchi Wonder, who disclosed this during an interactive session with media men in Calabar, expressed her enthusiasm for the project saying, “This cooking competition is not just about food; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging and bonding within families as well as developing culinary interest in our children.”

She emphasised that the event would serve as a platform for children to showcase their culinary talents and develop essential life skills, all while celebrating African culture and heritage.

To participate, according to her, parents of interested children are required to pay a registration fee of five thousand Naira (N5,000) only in favour of Goldgear Nigeria with account number;
UBA: 1022574083 and send proof of payment to 07033381363 or 07060952535 to obtain access to a Google registration form.

Mrs Wonder hinted that with limited spots available, only 50 children on the basis of first come, first served, will be selected for the competition, making it essential for parents to act quickly.

The spokesperson further revealed that the competition will unfold in multiple stages, beginning with an initial elimination round that will narrow the participants down to 20 contestants. Following that, the excitement will build as the competition reaches its grand finale, where the final five will compete for the title of “Kiddies Chef Boss.”

Oluchi pointed out a concerning trend in current generations, noting that many children lack interest in cooking and culinary arts, adding, “We want to awaken the culinary spirit in these children.”

She averred that Children would have the opportunity to learn culinary skills while enjoying friendly competition with exciting prizes ranging from N150,000 for the first position, N100,000 for the second person and N50,000 for the third person, along with other mouthwatering consolation prizes.

Parents will benefit from the chance to witness their kids excel in a new experience, “Because the initiative will not only promotes creativity but also instills a sense of responsibility and independence in children.

“Moreover, the event aligns with the broader objectives of the International Day of the African Child, which emphasises the importance of quality education and the overall well-being of African children. By focusing on culinary arts, Goldgear aims to highlight the significance of traditional African cuisine and cooking methods, fostering pride in cultural heritage while also encouraging children to embrace healthy eating habits.

“In addition to the cooking competition, the event will include educational segments where participants will learn about nutrition, food safety, and the importance of cooking with fresh ingredients. Esteemed chefs from the hotels and arteries in Calabar are expected to serve as mentors and judges, providing valuable guidance and encouragement throughout the competition,” she added.
