Human factor most critical cause of accidents – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, has identified human factor as the most critical cause of road crashes across the country.
Mr Ahmed Umar, Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota, Ogun.
Umar noted that there were other factors like excessive speeding, traveling at night, loss of control, wrongful overtaking and mechanical fault, among others, which also contributed to some accidents across the state and county at large.
The sector commander explained that enforcement of traffic rules and regulations was not the problem but the motorists themselves.
“There is the need to interface with the motorists and ask them why they flout some of the traffic regulations as well as embark on night traveling.
“The FRSC has observed that most of the accidents occurred at night due to speeding because there are no FRSC personnel to control and check the excesses of drivers.
“We, therefore, implore motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations and refrain from night travels to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.
Umar admonished motorists against flouting traffic rules and regulations as any erring driver would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
He reiterated the commitment of the FRSC to continue to embark on more aggressive campaigns at Churches, Mosques and Motor parks to ensure that the roads are safe for the motoring public. (NAN)
