According to the Kaduna State Police Command, the state’s police have detained two gunrunners and a suspected bandit.
According to a statement made on Sunday in Katsina by the command’s spokesman, DSP Mohammed Jalige, the alleged bandit was apprehended on October 2 near Sabon Gayan along the Kaduna-Abuja route.
Jalige said: “The Police command had on Oct 2, at about 1330hrs while acting on an actionable intelligence around Sabon Gaya along Kaduna-Abuja road intercepted a Sharon vehicle with Reg. No. MNA 819 NT driven by the suspect, who was from Minna, heading to Katsina State through Kaduna.
“Upon a thorough search of the said vehicle, the following were recovered: one assault rifle,18 rifle magazines and 241 rounds of live ammunition”.
He also revealed that on October 5, the command had apprehended a gunrunner and taken ammo from him.
His words: “The operatives while acting on cogent intelligence had on Oct 5, intercepted a gunrunner of Yan Siminti village of Niger.
“The suspect, who hails from Plateau, was on his way to Katsina State to deliver 280 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm calibre live ammunition”.
Jalige noted that on October 8, Command agents detained a notorious dealer of weapons and ammunition.
He claimed that the man, who is from Nasa village in the state’s Kachia Local Government Area, was carrying many live 7.62mm rounds when he was apprehended near Galadimawa village in the Giwa LGA.
According to the spokesman, the suspect was being delivered the hazardous things to his accomplices when he was stopped by the agents at around 11:45 a.m.
He added: “Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having been in the nefarious business for a very long time”.
Mr. Yekini Ayoku, the commissioner of police, ordered a thorough investigation to be conducted in order to identify and apprehend all individuals responsible.
According to him, the reported successes would not have been possible without the necessary input from the general people, as well as the prompt follow-up and action by the Police.
In order to turn the tide against Nigeria’s collective enemies and retake the public space from them, Ayoku emphasized the necessity of strengthening effective teamwork.
