Following reports of kidnapping in the region, the Kwara County Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama, paid an impromptu visit to the inhabitants of Ilorin’s Alagbado and Gaa-Osibi neighbourhood on Wednesday in an effort to regain their trust.
Odama said that he visited the neighbourhoods to examine the security situation and the best course of action for restoring residents’ faith.
In order to stop the purported intrusions of criminal elements into the rapidly emerging communities, he revealed to the locals what the police had done and were now doing.

He added that the effort has drastically reduced fear and apprehension in the minds of the residents.
The Head of the Community of Osibi, Alfaa Ola Shehu, thanked the commissioner of police for the surprise visit and the speed by which police patrol teams were deployed to the area.
He stated that since the arrival of the police teams, the residents have been sleeping with their two eyes closed.

He stated that members of the communities were ready to support the policemen with the necessary materials that could enhance their duty.
The representatives of the community joined the police boss to patrol the area and showed the area they fear the criminals used in accessing the communities.
Odama assured the residents of the police’s determination to end criminal activities in the area in particular and the state in general.
He advised the leadership of the communities to work with the police deployed to the area by giving useful information at all times and reporting to him any conduct by the policemen that is at variance with their rules of engagement.
He promised to always pay unscheduled visits like this to assess the situation and review strategies.
Odama urged the residents not to panic or plan to relocate from the community, saying that the place is now safe and peaceful for people to live and do their businesses without any fear of attack and intimidation.
