Lagos, Nigeria – The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached following allegations of multiple statutory and financial infractions.
Obasa, in response to speculations about his political ambitions, clarified his focus on party-building rather than personal aspirations.
“My intention is to promote our party on the platform of Mandate,” he stated, dismissing claims that his actions were driven by a desire to become governor.
While denying prioritising governorship aspirations, he remarked, “Becoming governor is secondary; it is something that I have not given serious consideration. Nevertheless, that does not mean I am too young or lack experience to run.”
The impeachment underscores growing political tensions and questions surrounding leadership integrity in the state assembly.
