Law Society congratulates 4,711 young lawyers called to the Nigerian bar

The newly-Inaugrated protem National Exco of the Law Society Of Nigeria (LSN), on Wednesday congratulated the Body of Benchers (BoB) and all the new lawyers recently called to the Nigerian Bar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chairman of the BoB, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), had on Dec. 6 (yesterday), called 4,711 law graduates to the Nigerian Bar at the BoB conference hall in Abuja .

The BoB, therefore, urged all “new wigs” to ensure that they uphold the tenets of the legal profession at all times.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday by LSN Publicity Secretary Mr Douglas Ogbankwa, and signed by president of the LSN, Mr Kunle Ogunba SAN, and a trustee, Mr Richard Ogbeche, the group also urged adherence to the rule of law.

The statement partly reads:

“As one of the national associations of legal practitioners in Nigeria, the Protem National Executives of the Law Society of Nigeria (LSN) is excited to welcome all the new wigs, totalling 4,711, called to Bar on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022.

“In affirmation of your tenacity, we say keep your heads high, and be optimistic because optimism is the very foundation of courage and true progress.

“Be hard working, for we cannot overestimate the virtue of hard work and dreaming dreams; only those who have dared to achieve so, greatly ever achieved greatness.

“While dreaming dreams follow through with the works, be intentional; the sky can only be a launching pad for your untold greatness,” he said.

While noting that as humans, we all remain mindful of our many pitfalls and shortcomings, the group added that the legal profession is indeed, noble and encourages constitutional freedom for all Nigerians.

“We are a miniature representation of the larger society. We are the very vanguard of rule of law and due process, whose mandate at all times, must be the attainment of substantial justice.

“While congratulating the Body of Benchers for admitting yet another set of lawyers into our most noble profession, we call on all and sundry to join hands together to make the Legal Profession the ‘numero uno’ among all professions in Nigeria.

“As an Association, we believe in the rule of law; We call on all other stakeholders to stick to the codes of the profession to serve as good examples to the new wigs,” he said. (NAN)
