Mass Baptisms Held Across Uganda During Holiday Season

Uganda, January 15, 2025 – More than 50 were baptized in the Diocese of Gulu. A series of mass Baptisms were celebrated in Uganda during the Nativity season.

On Saturday, January 4, a new parish of the Patriarchate of Alexandria was formally established in Bugiri, with the Baptism of 17 catechumens, including both children and adults, reports the site Uganda Orthodox Church.

After the service, Fr. Chrysostomos Koolya encouraged the newly baptized to carry the light of Christ to others: “You now carry the beacon of truth and are urged to use it to enlighten the whole town of Bugiri and expand the community. By following Jesus Christ, you are expected to walk in the straight path by standing against darkness.”

On January 6, Bishop Silvester (Kisitu) celebrated the feast of Theophany at Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Jinja City. Following the Blessing of the Waters, 17 children were baptized and chrismated, including children of Orthodox families and catechumens.

On the same day, Bishop Nektarios of Gulu and assisting clergy baptized more than 50 young and adult catechumens at the Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church in Aloyo Ajong.

After the service, the Bishop encouraged the newly illumined to “always live a life befitting of an Orthodox Christian,” including frequent participation in the Holy Mysteries.
