As students of the University of Ilorin prepare for the First Semester examinations, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), Prof. Lukman Azeez, has warned them not to get themselves involved in examination malpractice.
Azeez said that the institution has zero tolerance for malpractices.
He gave the warning on Monday while speaking at an interactive session on examinations organised by the faculty for its students.
The dean urged students to take their examinations very seriously, stressing that “over the years, the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences has not been experiencing examination malpractice because it is not in our character”.
Azeez added that since the establishment of the faculty, it is known to be one of the best faculties in the university because “we have integrity and we are able to be honoured”.
The don, however, lamented that since last year, the faculty has begun to witness series of examination malpractices due to the large number of students, pointing out that “this is why the Faculty came up with this interactive programme to enlighten students on negative implications of examination malpractice”.
The first Professor of Mass Communication at the university noted that the programme is a form of mobilisation, persuasion and eye opener on any form of examination misconduct.
Azeez, therefore, advised the students to write their examinations “with all honours you deserve, do your examination with all integrity you deserve and pass your examination in the university.
“Never involve in impersonation and stick to rules and regulations governing the conduct of university examinations; because once you are caught, you are gone,” Azeez warned.
The dean also advised students to cultivate the habit of being at the examination hall at least 30 minutes before the commencement of their examination, cautioning that the faculty will not condone any unwarranted attitude from any student this time around.
While interpreting the regulations that govern the conduct of the university examinations to students, the Sub -Dean of the faculty, Dr Emos Bajeh, charged them to get themselves acquainted with the Students Information Handbook, saying it stated clearly the dos and don’ts of the students before and during examinations.
Bajeh emphasised that Section 19 of the Student’s Information Regulations Handbook should be at the back of their minds.
He urged them to read through and digest the contents, advising them to always examine their sitting places to ensure there is no any implicating material.
The sub-dean said they should raise alarm to the invigilators in order not to end up violating the rules and regulations that guide the university examination, adding that ignorance is not an excuse.
On his part, the Assistant Faculty Officer of CIS, Mrs Aminat Jolayemi, stressed the need for students to get their course forms duly signed and never forget the signatories of their level advisers.
She also urged them to always put on their identification cards on their necks as it is very important.
Similarly, a lecturer at the faculty, Dr G. B. Balogun, enjoined the students to adhere strictly to all the university rules and regulations and never engage in any form of indiscipline that could lead them to expulsion. (NAN)
